Publication rules descargar pdf

The Journal of the Geological Society of Spain is a bi-annual publication of the Geological Society of Spain. This journal publishes original research contributions in Spanish or English, that cover any topics related with Earth Sciences. Regional geology papers, in particular those concerning the Iberian Peninsula and with abundant data of any type, are welcome. Tables and figures will be the necessary ones for the comprehension of the paper.

The original manuscript should be submitted electronically through the web page www.revistaSGE.es to the Main Editor (Juan Antonio Morales González, Department of Geology, University of Huelva, Spain). With the submitted manuscript authors should provide the names, addresses and e-mail of five suggested reviewers. When justified, the possibility of avoiding a reviewer is also offered.

When an author or groups of authors submit a paper for publication in this journal, it must be an original work and the text (or part of it) was neither published elsewhere, in any lenguage.

The internal structure of the manuscript should follow the instructions given below and shall comply with the template that you can get on the journal web page. This template indicates how to generate a unique file with the main text, the figures and tables. These latter should be correlative and positioned along the text. Their caption, in the same lenguage as the text. should be included. Once compiled, a PDF file will be generated, that will be sent to the Main Editor.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

Manuscript preparation
The original manuscript extension must not exceed 12,000 words (one double-spaced text page, of DIN A4 format and written with font Times 12, is approximately equivalent to 300 words). This extension includes the equivalent area of figures and tables.

Follow this order when composing manuscripts: a) Title, brief and informative (in English and Spanish), b) name and surname of the author(s), c) full postal addresses of each author, d) abstract, without references (in Spanish and English, not exceeding 200 words for the language of the main text, and no more then 400 words for the second lenguage), e) key words (no more then seven, in Spanish and English), f) short title to put in the headers, g) main text, h) acknowledgements, i) references. Headers should be hierarchically sorted into three types without any numbering: bold lowercase (aligned to the left and separate text), italics lowercase (aligned to the left and separate text) and italics lowercase (aligned to the left, and followed by the text). Skip the heading corresponding to introduction.

In the main text, any cited publications should be referred to the author’s name (without initials) and year of publication (e.g. Mateos and Jiménez, 2007; Teixell et al., 2007). The reference list should include only the cited publications, published or in press (works in preparation are not admitted). References should be given in the following form:

It must be taken into account that Figure and Tables can occupy either one column (81 mm width) or two columns (167 mm width). The line drawings must have a good quality in terms of patterns, grey tones and legends. The photographs, which will be treated as figures, should be clearly visible and have a sufficent contrast for imprint.

Sending and revision process of the manuscript
Manuscripts will be sent for review to a minimum of two reviewers. In case of disrepancy, the Main Editor of the Journal of the Geological Society of Spain will send the manuscript to a third reviewer. Once revised the original manuscript by these specialists, the Main
Editor will decide if the manuscript can be either accepted without revisions, or with minor revisions, with major revisions, or rejected. In case of revisions, the original manuscript will be corrected by the authors, which should take into account the suggestions of the reviewers, and eventually, definitively accepted.

Accepted manuscripts
Once accepted, the manuscript will be sent electronically to the Main Editor in various files, in order to be managed during the editing process. The first one will include all the material related with the text (DOC Word file), with the same structure as the original manuscript, but with figures and tables outside of the text. In this file, after the references, a table list of the tables together with the figures captions in the language of the manuscript must be included.

Tables and figures will be sent in individual files, sequentially numbered. Moreover, the first author shall indicate his name in the margin of each illustration, together with its numbering. The photographs will be handled as Figures. The files in color will be edited in the PDF version you get online on the website of the Geological Society of Spain, although the photographs will be published in black and white (if not specified). Photographs must have a strong contrast and a glossy aspectand shall contain in scales or objects to scale. Figures and photographs files must be provided on JPEG, TIFF or EPS format. If the TIFF format is used and the figure contains only lines drawings, resolution shall be 600 dpi. If the figures are in greyscale or in color, the resolution shall be 300 dpi.

Authors will receive a test printing to be checked for typesetting/editing. No changes in, or additions to, the accepted (and subsequently edited) manuscript will be allowed at this stage.

Once published, 25 free offprints will be delivered to the first author. 100 or 200 additional offprints may be ordered and paid in advance by the authors at the price previously fixed by the printer, included delivery costs. Colour illustrations will be accepted; however, the authors will be expected to make a contribution towards the extra printing cost. If, together with the accepted manuscript, colour figures are submitted by the authors, the Geological Society of Spain will ensure, at no additional charge, that these figures will appear in colour on its web.
